Jharkhand is the largest lac producer in India, contributing about 54.60% of national lac production. In 2019-20, it produced approximately 18,944 tons of sticklac. Six states, including Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Maharashtra, and Odisha, produce over 99% of India's lac. Khunti district in Jharkhand accounts for 28.9% of the state's lac production. India leads global lac production with about 20,000 tonnes annually, exporting around 65% internationally.
