The United Nations (UN) observes June 16 as International Day of Family Remittances (IDFR) to honour the role of migrant workers in supporting families. The theme for 2025 is “Remittances Financing Development.” Remittances impact around 1 billion people worldwide, either as senders or receivers. The campaign focuses on how remittances support Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Low- and Middle-Income Countries. It promotes financial inclusion, household economic stability, and climate resilience. IDFR was first observed in 2008 by the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) and the World Bank.
