The San Miguel Carnival is celebrated in El Salvador around the last Saturday in November every year. This day, also known as Queen of the Peace Day or "Dia de la Reina de la Paz," is celebrated elsewhere in El Salvador. The San Miguel Carnival takes place in the city of San Miguel and is similar to the Mardi Gras in scope and style. Several dozen musical groups take part in a marching carnival on San Miguel's streets. The Carnival is one of the largest in the country and in the region, with up to one million participants per year.
