The coastline of Equatorial Guinea, a Central African country, is principally formed by the Bight of Biafra/Bight of Bonny. This bight of the South Atlantic Ocean's Gulf of Guinea is distinct from the Bight of Benin. Equatorial Guinea's territory, split into an insular region and the mainland, is surrounded by Cameroon and Gabon. The insular region includes Bioko Island, home to capital Malabo, and Annobon Island, both located in the Bight of Biafra. In contrast, the mainland, or Rio Muni, lies south of Cameroon and northwest of Gabon, and includes other smaller islands in the Gulf of Guinea.
