Accelerator of charged atomic particles
A cyclotron is an accelerator of charged atomic particles, specifically designed to accelerate ions or electrons to high energies using a magnetic field and an oscillating electric field. Invented in 1930 by Ernest O. Lawrence, it was pivotal in nuclear physics and medical applications, such as cancer treatment through particle therapy. Cyclotrons can accelerate particles to energies of several million electron volts (MeV).
