Chotanagpur Tenancy Act
The Chotanagpur Tenancy Act (CNT Act), 1908, was enacted by the British government to protect tribal land rights in Jharkhand. It prohibits the sale of tribal land to non-tribal people to prevent exploitation. The Act applies to North Chotanagpur, South Chotanagpur, and Palamau divisions. It safeguards khunt-katti rights of the Mundas and addresses illegal land usurpation following tribal uprisings like Birsa Munda's Ulgulan. The CNT Act governs the regulation of land transfer in tribal areas within Jharkhand.
