Notes: Birsa Munda Airport in Ranchi was built in 1941 by the British for the Royal Air Force. It was the first airport in the state of Jharkhand. After independence, it was converted into a civil aerodrome in 1949. The airport is managed by the Airports Authority of India and handles over 2.5 million passengers annually. Other airports in Dhanbad, Jamshedpur, and Bokaro were established later and do not predate Ranchi airport.
