Notes: The Upper Ganga Canal originates at Haridwar, Uttarakhand. It was designed and constructed by engineer Proby Thomas Cautley between 1842 and 1854. The canal starts at Haridwar's barrage, diverting water from the Ganges. It irrigates about 9,000 km² of farmland across parts of Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand and spans 5,950 miles including its branches.
