The Chuar revolt (1767–1833) took place mainly in the Manbhum area, now part of Purulia district. It was led by leaders like Durjan Singh and Jagannath Singh Patar from eastern Jharkhand. The revolt was against British revenue policies and land annexation. Dhalbhum was also affected, but Manbhum was a significant center. The Chuar rebellion involved guerrilla warfare in forested areas against the East India Company.
