East Singhbhum district was formed on January 16, 1990, by dividing Singhbhum district in Jharkhand. The district was created by carving out nine blocks from Singhbhum. The headquarters of the district is Jamshedpur. East Singhbhum covers an area of 3,533 sq km. Over 50% of the district's area is forested. It is known for industrial growth and mining activities.
