The annexation of Punjab took place in the year 1849 (March). Lord Dalhousie was the governor-general of India at that time. After the annexation, the administrative responsibility of Punjab was handed over to a board consisting of three members. Later the board was abolished. Many reforms were carried out by the British and as a result, the Sikhs did not even join during the time of the great revolt of 1857 against the British.
