World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) is observed annually on 20 October to raise awareness about osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is a condition where bones become weak and brittle, often showing no symptoms until fractures occur. Minor falls, bumps, or sudden movements can cause fractures in affected individuals. Elderly people are more prone, with 1 in 3 women and 1 in 5 men over 50 suffering osteoporotic fractures globally. Only 20% of patients are diagnosed or treated due to poor healthcare access and awareness. World Osteoporosis Day (WOD) promotes early diagnosis, bone density checks, healthy lifestyle, and diet for prevention. The 2025 theme is “It’s Unacceptable!”, highlighting urgent action to close treatment and prevention gaps worldwide.
