Galapagos giant tortoise or Galapagos tortoise is an endangered species of tortoise according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. It is the largest living species of tortoise. Today, giant tortoises exist on only two remote archipelagos - one in Galapagos Islands of Ecuador and the other in Aldabra atoll region of the Indian Ocean, east of Tanzania. The Galapagos tortoises are native to seven of the Galapagos Islands. These tortoises have a lifespan in the world over 100 years, it is one of the longest-lived vertebrates. The captive individual tortoises can live at least 170 years.
