East Timor (Timor-Leste) is an island nation in the Southeast Asian region, residing in the eastern half of the Timor Island, part of Maritime Southeast Asia and the Lesser Sunda Islands of the Malay Archipelago. This island is split into two parts; East, Timor-Leste a sovereign country, and West, an Indonesian province. Located north of the Timor Sea, the Island of Timor is the only place where Indonesia shares a land border. Apart from Timor-Leste, the territory also includes Atauro and Jaco Islands. The island's capital, Dili, acts as its chief port and commercial center. The official languages are Portuguese and Tetum, part of the Austronesian language family prevalent in Southeast Asia and the Pacific.
