The apex body of Nagaland’s Sangtam community has passed a resolution to protect pangolins. The Sangtam tribe is one of the sixteen major tribes of Nagaland and a key Naga ethnic group in Northeast India. They are mainly concentrated in Kiphire and Tuensang districts, bordering Myanmar. Traditionally, they practice jhum cultivation (shifting agriculture) and follow a patriarchal system of lineage and inheritance.
