Tennessee Valley Project
The Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) was modeled after the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) of the USA. In 1944, engineer W.L. Voorduin from TVA studied the Damodar Valley and recommended a multipurpose development plan. The DVC was established in 1948 as India's first multipurpose river valley project, incorporating flood control, irrigation, power generation, and navigation, following the TVA framework. The Damodar Flood Enquiry Committee also recommended creating an authority similar to TVA for the valley's development.
