The Commonwealth of Dominica forms part of the Windward Islands, also known as Islands of Barlavento, part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago located in the Caribbean Sea. The Windward Islands includes countries such as Grenada, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines and Dominica. The island of Dominica was traditionally a part of the Leeward Islands until 1940 when it was transferred from the Leewards islands colony to the Windward Islands.
