Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) is chaired by the Prime Minister and handles key decisions on defence, expenditure and national security. It reviewed the global situation amid the West Asia conflict and assessed mitigation measures. The committee was first formed in 1947 by Jawaharlal Nehru after independence to address security challenges. Early members included Sardar Patel and Baldev Singh. After the 1999 Kargil War, CCS evolved into its present formal high-powered structure. Today, it is the apex decision-making body for internal and external security matters of the Government of India.
