Dominican Republic
The Alto Vela Island is a small uninhabited island located in the island country of the Dominican Republic in the Hispaniola Islands of the Greater Antilles Archipelago in the West Indies-Caribbean region facing the Caribbean Sea. This island is located along the Jaragua National Park, the largest protected area in the Caribbean region. It lies on an underwater mountain range. The United States of America, under the Guano Islands Act of 1860, claims the ownership of this island.
