The Akaal Takht is the highest seat of temporal authority of the Khalsa and an important symbol of Sikhism. The Akal Takht is located in the Harmandir Sahib complex in Amritsar, Punjab. Shri Guru Hargobind Singh laid the foundation stone of the Akal Takht building in 1605. The building faces the Darshini Deorhi, which leads to the Golden Temple. Originally the Akal Takht was just 3.5 metres higher from the ground.
