Notes: On 15 December, UNESCO granted ICH status to Kolkata's Durga Puja festival. Durga Puja is mainly celebrated in the eastern part of India, especially in West Bengal. It symbolizes the victory of Goddess Durga over the demon Mahishasura. The festival is characterized by large-scale installations and pavilions in urban areas as well as traditional Bengali drumming and worship of the goddess. During the event, divisions of class, religion and ethnicity are broken as crowds of spectators walk around to admire the establishments.
