National Service Scheme (NSS) Day is observed on 24 September every year across India. It marks the establishment of NSS, a permanent youth programme under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports (MYAS). The programme connects student youth with community service to build personality through social welfare work. NSS is a Central Sector Scheme implemented by MYAS with three core components – student youth, teachers, and the community. The motto is “Not Me But You,” highlighting democratic living and selfless service. The symbol of NSS is derived from the Rath wheel of Konark Sun Temple in Odisha.
