Maithon Hydroelectric Power Station is located in Dhanbad district, Jharkhand. It is situated on the Barakar River near the border with West Bengal's Burdwan district. The station is an underground facility, the first such in Southeast Asia, with a 60 MW generation capacity. The Maithon Dam, part of the project, was built by Damodar Valley Corporation in 1957. The dam supports flood control and power generation and stretches over 15,712 feet in length.
