Notes: National Rural Employment Guarantee Act was launched in 2006. This act was passed in September 2005 under the UPA government of Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh and launched in 2006. The scheme was later renamed ‘Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act(MGNREGA). It is an Indian labour law and social security measure that aims to guarantee the ‘right to work’. This is a centrally sponsored scheme and funding is shared between the central and state governments in the ratio 75:25 respectively.
