The Tana Bhagat protest started in 1914 among the Oraon community in Chotanagpur, Jharkhand. It was led by Jatra Bhagat and Turia Bhagat. The movement aimed to end animal sacrifices, alcoholism, and superstitions. The followers opposed zamindars, British taxes, moneylenders, and missionaries. They adopted Gandhian non-violence, wearing white khadi and practicing satyagraha. The protest lasted until 1919-1920 and merged into the Indian nationalist movement.
