Notes: The 131st birth anniversary of one of the greatest Indian leaders B R Ambedkar was celebrated across the country on April 14. A jurist and economist by profession, he served as Law and Justice Minister in the first cabinet of Jawaharlal Nehru. Ambedkar is remembered for his contributions in drafting the Indian Constitution and for standing up for the rights of Dalits. In 1990, he was posthumously conferred the Bharat Ratna- India's highest civilian award.
