Cocos Island, located in the Pacific Ocean, is administered by Costa Rica. It lies south-west of Costa Rican mainland. It is aa UNESCO World Heritage Site and as Ramsar Wetland. Costa Rica designated the entire island as National Park in 1978. It has no permanent inhabitants except Costa Rican park rangers. It is the southernmost point of the North American continent if outer islands are included.
