Saranda forest is mainly in West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand. It covers about 820-900 sq km of dense Sal forest, the largest in Asia. The forest was notified as reserved forest in 1882. Saranda means "land of seven hundred hills" and includes rivers Karo and Koina. It is located near Chaibasa and Jamshedpur. The forest has diverse flora such as Sal and Mahua, and fauna like elephants.
