Bhut Jolokia, also known as ghost pepper, is a chili pepper variety native to northeast India. It was recognized as the hottest chili by Guinness World Records in 2007, but lost this title in 2011. Its heat has diminished due to cross-pollination, dropping from 1 million to 0.3 million Scoville Heat Units (SHU). The Scoville Scale measures the spiciness of peppers.
