The J.P. movement, also called the Bihar movement, started in 1974 led by Jayaprakash Narayan. It began with protests against inflation, unemployment, and corruption. A major rally was held in Patna on June 5, 1974, calling for "sampoorna kranti" or total revolution. The movement ended with the formation of the Janata Party in January 1977 and elections after the Emergency was revoked. Hence, the movement lasted from 1974 to 1977.
