Notes: Recently, the Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister, Shri Radha Mohan Singh announced the possibility of the completion of Project CHAMAN by 2018. The project was launched in 2015 in an effort to provide strategic development to the horticulture sector, so as to increase farmers’ income. This project is being implemented by Mahalanobis National Crop Forecast Centre. It is a pioneer project in which remote sensing technique is being used for strategic development of horticulture sector. It gives methodology for preparing reliable estimates of horticulture crops. The project has potential enough to provide higher employment opportunities in the primary, secondary and tertiary sectors along with providing nutrient rich crops to the people and better remunerative prices to the farmers.
