A Grama Nyayalaya is a mobile court and exercises the powers of both Criminal and Civil Courts. Each Gram Nyayalaya is a court of Judicial Magistrate of the first class and its presiding officer (Nyayadhikari) is appointed by the State Government in consultation with the High Court. The judge who preside the Grama Nyayalaya is strictly judicial officers. He/She draw the same salary, deriving the same powers as First Class Magistrates working under High Courts.
