Lord Wellesley served as British Governor General from 1798 to 1805. The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War occurred in 1798–99 during his tenure. He implemented policies leading to the defeat of Tipu Sultan in Mysore. Warren Hastings was Governor General (1773–1785), Sir John Macpherson acted briefly in 1785, and Sir John Shore served from 1793 to 1798. The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War resulted in British supremacy in South India under Wellesley's leadership.
