The saltwater crocodile population in Odisha’s Bhitarkanika National Park increased to 1,826 in 2025 from 1,811 in 2024. Bhitarkanika National Park is located in Kendrapara district, Odisha, at the delta of Brahmani, Baitarani, and Dhamara rivers. The park spans 672 sq. km. and is India’s second-largest mangrove ecosystem. Its proximity to the Bay of Bengal enriches the soil with salt, supporting tropical and subtropical intertidal vegetation. It is Odisha’s second Ramsar site after Chilika Lake.
