Rajya Sabha approves President’s Rule in Jharkhand

The Rajya Sabha approved the proclamation of the President’s Rule in Jharkhand.

  • Arjun Munda resigned as Chief Minister of Jharkhand after his government lost majority last month as the JMM withdrew support to the BJP-led government.
  • On January 18, 2013, Jharkhand was brought under the President’s Rule for the 3rd time since its formation 12 years ago.
  • The Rajya Sabha approved the proclamation with a voice vote after a debate.
