As per the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, India has the potential to contribute 15 per cent of the global growth in 2023.
On the sidelines of the G20 meeting in Bengaluru, the IMF chief also said that India should completely focus on structural reforms, and make more opportunities for women.  For FY 2023-24, IMF had projected 6.1 per cent GDP growth for India.

Seattle has become the first US city to ban discrimination based on caste after a vote by the city council.
The caste system in India dates back over 3,000 years and divides Hindu society into rigid hierarchical groups. Similar bans on caste bias that have been introduced on the campuses of US universities in recent years.

National Science Day is celebrated in India on February 28th every year to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by Sir Chandrasekhara Venkata Raman.
It was observed for the first time in 1987. The day celebrates the contributions of scientists and creates awareness about the importance of science in everyday life. This discovery of Raman Scattering won Raman the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1930, making him the first Indian to receive a Nobel Prize in a scientific field.

G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) is scheduled to take place in physical format in New Delhi under India’s presidency.
The G20 Foreign Ministers Meeting (FMM) is one of the largest gatherings of foreign ministers hosted by any G20 Presidency. The 9 guest countries of the meeting are Bangladesh, Egypt, Mauritius, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Singapore, Spain and the UAE.

The Electronic Bill (e-Bill) processing system was launched by the Central Government on the occasion of the 46th Civil Accounts Day in 2022.
All central ministries and departments will be brought on board of the paperless and faceless e-Bill system before March 2024 to eliminate corruption and ensure the timely clearance of bills submitted by their vendors and contractors.

The S-400 Triumf is a surface-to-air missile system that was developed in Russia in the 1990s as an upgrade to the S-300 family.
The system was first put into service on April 2007. The S-400 Triumf has advanced features such as a long-range, high-altitude interception capability, and the ability to track multiple targets simultaneously.

Green hydrogen refers to hydrogen produced from renewable sources such as wind and solar energy through a process called electrolysis.
CSIR-Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT) and NTPC are planning to collaborate to produce green hydrogen. Green hydrogen is considered a clean and sustainable energy source with high economic potential and cost-effectiveness.

Race Across India is Asia’s longest ever cycle race. It was kicked off recently from Srinagar in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
The final destination of this first-of-its-kind race is Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu covering a distance of 3,655 kilometres. Geeta Rao is the only female participant in this race, which is being participated by 29 cyclists. She is India’s first differently-abled Super Randonneur.

The ‘IS 18149:2023 – Transportation of Dangerous Goods — Guidelines’ have been published by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS).
The aim is to enhance the safety in the transportation of hazardous materials. The guidelines provide guidance on classification, packaging, labelling and marking, handling, documentation, training, transportation, emergency action and provisions for segregation of dangerous goods.

Notes:
Swachhotsav, a 3-week long women-led cleanliness campaign under the Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0, has been launched by Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.
It aims to recognize and celebrate the shift from women in sanitation to women-led sanitation. The Women Icons leading Sanitation & Waste Management (WINS) Challenge-2023 was also announced during the launch event.
