Mylab Coviself
Recently, Mylab Discovery Solutions, a Pune based lab has been granted permission by ICMR to launch a Covid test that can be used by individuals in their respective homes to test whether they are infected by the virus or not. This approval has been given by the ICMR as the second wave of the pandemic has hit India hard and daily cases are on the rise. Mylab was also responsible for bringing out the first indigenous RT-PCR test kit in India.
Q1. How will Mylab Coviself be used by individuals?
The test can be purchased by an individual for an amount of Rs 250 and this is a rapid antigen test. The user will have to download an app that will be used by Mylab to determine whether the individual is affected or not. The swab can be collected by an individual and no professional help is required. After taking the swab the individual has to upload the photo of the test strip on the mobile app.
Q2. What is the ICMR guideline regarding Coviself?
ICMR has issued guidelines stating that this test should only be used by individuals who are showing symptoms of the virus or have come contact with other Covid positive individuals. They have also asked individuals, who will test positive on Coviself, to follow home isolation guidelines.
Q3. How long will it take for this kit to show results?
The Mylab Coviself will show results within fifteen minutes. The kit will have a test strip with two sections marked on it. If the bar shows only the control section denoted by ‘C’ then the person is negative but if the bar shows both the control section and test section which is denoted by ‘T’ then the individual is Covid positive.
