The c0c0n conference is a cyber security conference. It is conducted by the Kerala Police in association with the Information Security Research Association (ISRA) and Society for the Policing of Cyberspace (POLCYB).

About c0c0n Conference

It is an International Cyber security conference. Earlier it was known as Cyber Safe. It began in 2008. It is conducted as a part of International Information Security Day. The Kid Glove is an initiative launched in 2015 as part of c0c0n conference in 2015. It focuses on online child protection. It helps an organization in defining cybersecurity strategy, providing trainings for teachers and parents, developing curriculums on cyber security for students and conduct events that raise awareness on cybersecurity.

c0c0n conference 2021

The 14th edition of the c0c0n conference was held in 2021. It was inaugurated by Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat. The conference discussed defenses during lock down period and online scams. The conference was held in such as way that online security is beneficial even to children in the state. This is because after COVID-19 the crimes have increased with shift to online classes. The conference discussed the international level issues faced in the current digital world. It shared information about the cyber security issues, improvement in administrative and technical capabilities and enhancing the law enforcement agencies. During the conference, the international threats such as cyber warfare, cyber-attacks on digital infrastructure, drone attacks and privacy espionage were discussed. The theme of c0c0n conference 2021 is as follows:

In 2021, more women were invited to the conference. More than 6,000 participants attended the c0c0n conference held in 2020.

Importance of c0c0n Conference

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, the cyber-attacks in India have increased from 394,499 in 2019 to 1,158,208 in 2020. This increased as the online activities increased after COVID-19 and related lock down. India is the second largest consumer of smart devices. The main reason for the increase in cyber-attacks in India are outdated processes and systems, accelerated digital adoption in a short period of time, unorganized and fragmented cyber security infrastructure and limited understanding about cyber security.  The conference helped to address the prevailing issues around cyber security in India.

Benefits of the Conference

The conference will help to protect the businesses in the country. Such conferences will increase the confidence of the international investors. It will remove the obstacles and risks around remote working. India can exhibit its cyber security potential and measures through these conferences. The average cost of cybercrime for an organisation has increased to 13 million USD from 1.4 million USD. And data breaches have increased by 11%. The conference will help India to get updated with cyber security measures undertaken internationally. This is essential to protect the country’s data from increasing breaches.
