Sadiya earthquake

Sadiya earthquake is a historic earthquake that is said to have caused massive destruction on the border between Arunachal Pradesh and Assam. The quake struck the region in 1697. Recently, scientists from Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology found geological evidence of this event in the form of surface rupture signatures by carrying out mega trench excavation in Arunachal Pradesh. This finding will contribute to a more accurate seismic hazard assessment of Eastern Himalayas.
