Pune Metro Rail Project

Pune Metro is a rapid transit system that serves Pune. The system consists of three lines totaling 54.58 kilometers, of which 12 kilometers are operational from March 2022. PM Modi inaugurated the Pune Metro on 6th March 2022.

Overview:

  • From March 6, 2022, the service of the Pune metro began.
  • The trains will run along two routes for the time being: Vanaz to Garware College Metro Station and PCMC to Phugewadi Metro Station.
  • 10 stations became operational from March 6.
  • The trains will run every 30 minutes from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m.
  • There are currently only two single-journey fares: Rs 10 and Rs 20. The cost of a round trip on both routes is Rs 30.
  • The Phugewadi Metro Station’s theme is inspired by an organic form of leaf and is based on a leaf.
  • The design of the Garware College Metro Station was influenced by characteristics of innovation and youth.
  • Only passengers who are fully vaccinated will be allowed to board the trains.
  • The total cost of this project is more than Rs 11,400 crores.
  • On December 24, 2016, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for the Pune Metro Rail Project.

Pune Metro Network

The purple line is 16.59-km long starting from PCMC Bhavan to Swargate and it runs on an elevated viaduct between the PCMC building to Range Hills. From Range Hills, the metro goes underground. The aqua line runs on an elevated viaduct from Vanaz to Ramwadi, spanning a distance of 14.66 kilometers. The elevated Line 3 will run from Hinjawadi’s Rajiv Gandhi Infotech Park to Civil Court through Balewadi. At the Civil Court interchange station, all three lines will align.

The aqua and purple lines have a combined length of 31.25 km and the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MahaMetro), a 50:50 joint venture of the central and state governments is implementing it.

The Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) and a joint venture between Tata Realty and Siemens are building Line 3 as a Public-Private Partnership. Line 3 construction began in January 2020.
