Nirmal Purja climbs 14 highest mountains in a record-breaking 6 months
Nirmal Purja, a Nepali mountaineer and former British army soldier, has climbed all 14 of the world’s 8,000-metre-high mountains in a record-breaking 189 days. He recently reached the top of his 14th mountain ‘Shishapangma’ in China. He was already the holder of numerous records – including the fastest “double-header” of two mountains higher than 8,000 metres – and was awarded the MBE, a civilian honour, by the Queen in 2018. The previous record was held by Kim Chang-ho of South Korea, who took 7 years, 11 months and 14 days.
