Banihal-Qazigund tunnel

Banihal-Qazigund tunnel is the only four-lane twin tube tunnel in the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. This 8.5 km long tunnel is at an elevation of 1,790 meters. The project, with an outlay of Rs.2,100 crore, was initiated in June 2011 to reduce the distance between Banihal in Jammu province and Qazigund in South Kashmir by 16 km. Union Minister of State Dr Jitendra Singh announced that the works on this tunnel is to be completed soon.
