The Vice Chief of Air Staff (VCAS), Air Marshal Birender Singh Dhanoa will be the new chief of Air Staff (CAS) of the Indian Air Force (IAF). He will assume the post of Air Chief on January 1, 2017 after Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha retires. The primary responsibility of IAF is to secure Indian airspace and to conduct aerial warfare during a conflict. The President of India serves as Supreme Commander of the IAF.
