The 68th UN General Assembly has declared 2016 as the International Year of Pulses (IYP). The IYP 2016 aims to increase the public awareness about the nutritional benefits of pulses as part of sustainable food production aimed towards food security and nutrition. The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) has been nominated to facilitate the implementation of the Year in collaboration with all stakeholders.
