Syed Zahoor Qasim was a renowned scientist and leader of India’s first expedition to Antarctica. Apart from his Antarctica mission in 1981-81, he also successfully organised and guided the next seven expeditions. Qasim won many awards including Padma Shiri, Padma Bhushan, Lifetime Achievement Award, Indian Science Congress and first National Ocean Science and Technology award.
