World Ocean Day is celebrated every year on 8 June to highlight the importance of oceans in supporting life and climate. It was first proposed at the 1992 Earth Summit in Rio and officially recognised by the United Nations in 2008. The 2025 theme is “Wonder: Sustaining What Sustains Us,” urging policymakers to protect oceans with awe and responsibility.
