The Panchayatan style was modified into a star pattern, known as the stellate scheme. Fine carvings were done on the inner and outer walls. Shikhar were present at all the shrines and were intertwined. It flourished in Bengal under the patronage of the Pala dynasty which was Buddhist and the Sena dynasty which was Hindu.
