The Ain-i-Akbari, a 16th-century Persian document by court historian Abu'l Fazl, details Mughal administration under Emperor Akbar. It consists of five books covering the imperial household, military, administration, Hindu philosophy, and Akbar's sayings. Abu'l Fazl was assassinated in 1602 by orders of Prince Salim (later Jahangir). The work provides the first detailed statistics on the Mughal Empire's economy, population, and geography.
