Vitthal Sundar Parshurami was a Deshastha Brahmin from Maharashtra who served as Prime Minister and commander-in-chief under Nizam Ali Khan of Hyderabad. When Nizam Ali Khan became Subedar of the Deccan in 1762, Vitthal Sundar was appointed Diwan and honoured with the title Raja Pratapwant. He led the Nizam’s forces at the Battle of Rakshasbhuvan against the Maratha Confederacy on 10 August 1763, where he was killed. This event is a lesser-known episode highlighting the complex political and military relations between the Nizam and Marathas in the 18th century.
