Akbar ascended the throne at 13 after his father Humayun's death, ruling under regent Bairam Khan. Bairam Khan, a Shia Muslim from Badakhshan, secured Akbar's reign at the Second Battle of Panipat (1556) and implemented administrative reforms, integrating diverse ethnic groups. He also promoted Persian culture in Akbar's court.
